SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — There’s a question that Florida Panthers general manager Bill Zito likes to ask people. “Bill takes in all opinions, but he does what he thinks is right,” Panthers coach Paul Maurice said. “We travel with this really high-end coffee maker,” Tkachuk said when told of Zito’s belief that good coffee is vital. He’s really involved with helping us with whatever we need, but he’s not overly involved like where he’s in your face every day. “Those players are committed and committed to winning and being selfless, who are really, really good people.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL-leading Florida Panthers landed forward Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators for a pair of draft picks, adding more wing depth before the playoffs start. The Panthers sent a fourth-round pick in this year's draft to Ottawa as part of the deal, and the fourth-rounder would upgrade to a 2026 third-rounder if Florida wins the Stanley Cup this season. Ottawa also is getting a third-round pick from Florida in 2025, while the Senators are retaining half of Tarasenko's salary. “We are excited for him to join our team, and to compete for the Stanley Cup once again.”Ottawa now has $7.2 million in cap space. He has tons of playoff experience — 97 games in 10 years — and helped St. Louis win the Stanley Cup in 2017.

Hockey is one of the most physical sports, and referees try to keep it in line by assessing penalties when a push or a trip goes too far. But on Monday night in Ottawa, the officials had enough. After a fight broke out in the third period of a roughly played game between the Florida Panthers and the Ottawa Senators, the officials threw up their hands and kicked every skater on the ice out of the game. Florida was leading by 4-0 when Brady Tkachuk, the Senators captain, came off the bench and got a quick breakaway. The officials at first seemed to get the situation under control, but a punch heated things up again.

Patrick Kane is joining the Detroit Red Wings for the rest of the season, choosing the championship-rich franchise over other suitors for the four-time All-Star's return to the NHL from hip surgery. After the Blackhawks and New York Rangers he joined after a pre-deadline trade, the Red Wings are set to become Kane’s third Original Six team. Kane had similar control as a free agent, letting the market and the first month of the season play out before talking to interested teams. The Red Wings and Blackhawks were longtime, bitter rivals until Detroit was shifted from the Western to the Eastern Conference in 2013 as part of realignment. Kane follows a similar path to the player he's chasing for the U.S. scoring record: Mike Modano, who played 20 seasons for the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars before finishing his career with the Red Wings.

November 21 - Just when it seemed as if the Edmonton Oilers finally had found a rhythm, they might be amid another slide. However, the Oilers again are headed in the wrong direction after allowing 11 goals in consecutive road defeats to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers. On Monday, the Oilers squandered leads of 2-0 and 3-2 en route to a 5-3 loss to the Panthers. Jarvis has seven goals this season after totaling 31 over his first two seasons. November 21 - The Florida Panthers, who will go for their third straight win when they play host to the Boston Bruins Wednesday night, are getting an unexpected contribution from defenseman Niko Mikkola. July 1, the Panthers signed Mikkola to a three-year, $7.8 million contract. Indeed, in just 18 games this season, Mikkola - who made his NHL debut in January 2020 - has already matched his career high with three goals. The Bruins led that series 3-1 before Florida won the next two and then took Game 7 in overtime. That game was atypical for Boston as the Bruins have allowed more than two goals just four times this season -- all losses.

Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 14 (Reuters) - Quebec City, which has been without a National Hockey League (NHL) team since the Nordiques departed for Colorado in 1995, will host two preseason games next October featuring the Los Angeles Kings, the club announced on Tuesday. The training camp and games will take place at the Videotron Centre, a venue that opened in 2015 with the goal of one day being home to an NHL team. "I know how passionate Quebec City fans are about the game," Kings President and Hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille said in a news release. The Nordiques were founded in 1972 and played in the World Hockey Association before joining the NHL in 1979. Canada's seven NHL teams earn ticket and concession revenue in Canadian dollars while salaries are paid in U.S. dollars.

CNN —A “crazy amount of emotions” ran through TJ Oshie’s mind as he watched footage of what would be American hockey player Adam Johnson’s final moments on the ice. The English Ice Hockey Association has announced that all players must wear neck guards from the start of next year, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Johnson’s former NHL team, are mandating neck guards for their minor league players, coach Mike Sullivan has said. In the NHL, neck guards – let alone neck coverings of any kind – are not a common sight. “I think there is a machismo within ice hockey where you’re seen as being something less if you choose to wear more protective equipment,” ice hockey broadcaster Seth Bennett tells CNN Sport. Warroad’s neck guards are fitted with Kevlar and steel components, ensuring that they have enough stiffness to stay upright and offer effective coverage around the neck.

November 9 - The New Jersey Devils will battle the Washington Capitals Friday night in Newark, N.J., in a game that will have a hard time matching the action from their last encounter. Washington visited New Jersey on Oct. 25, and that night the Capitals scored the only three goals in the first period, the Devils notched all four in the second and the Capitals scored three in the third for a 6-4 win. Captain Alex Ovechkin -- in pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's goals record -- has scored twice in 11 games for new coach Spencer Carbery. "It's still early and I think younger players and older players are adjusting here," general manager Brian MacLellan told NHL.com regarding Ovechkin. LABELLE, Fla. (AP) — Two endangered Florida panthers have been struck and killed by vehicles, officials said. A 2-year-old male panther's remains were found Monday near the Spirit-of-the-Wild Wildlife Management Area in Hendry County, and a 3-year-old female panther was found dead a day later near the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area in Glades County, wildlife officials said. All 10 known panther deaths this year were caused by vehicle collisions, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Florida panthers once roamed the entire Southeast, but their habitat now is mostly confined to a small region of Florida along the Gulf of Mexico. Up to 230 Florida panthers remain in the wild.

The Florida Panthers started the season without Sam Bennett, and they are bracing to be without him once again. Panthers coach Paul Maurice told reporters after the team practiced in Detroit on Wednesday that the reigning Eastern Conference champions aren't sure on the prognosis for Bennett, Florida's fourth-leading scorer in last season's playoffs. Bennett needed to be helped off the ice, unable to put any weight on his left leg. The Panthers have dealt with injuries throughout this young season, with defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour still expected to be weeks away from making their 2023-2024 debuts.
